GREAT MIDWEST ATHLETIC CONFERENCE: ALCOX NAMED G-MAC ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER FOR COMMUNICATIONS

ALCOX NAMED G-MAC ASSISTANT COMMISSIONER FOR COMMUNICATIONS

INDIANAPOLIS ? Kevin Alcox has accepted the position of Assistant Commissioner for Communications with the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and will begin with the G-MAC on July 9, 2012. Alcox will conclude his duties as Director of Sports Information and Head Women?s Golf Coach at Ursuline College to assume the role with the league.
Alcox, who developed the Sports Information position at Ursuline by executing their marketing and social media strategies, will oversee the development of the media efforts as the G-MAC?s first Assistant Commissioner for Communications.

He will be responsible for creating a strategic vision for the communications efforts, maintaining the G-MAC website (g-macsports.com), managing publications, overseeing conference statistics and records, serving as the liaison to the G-MAC SID Committee and assisting with the administration of conference championships.

?Kevin has provided key sports information support to the G-MAC in our early development during his time at charter-member Ursuline,? said G-MAC Commissioner Tom Daeger. ?We are fortunate he has expressed the desire to lead our strategic communication efforts and continue to assist the G-MAC develop into a model NCAA Division II conference.?
?He will be a great addition to our conference staff and I believe Kevin will provide the energy, effort and creativity we need to succeed.?
Alcox illustrated his drive at Ursuline by producing the school?s first athletic publications, creating a new and expanded website, and introducing social media platforms, live stat offerings, podcasts, video blogs and other initiatives. Additionally, Alcox assisted in sponsorship development, created the Arrows Hall of Fame and implemented Ursuline?s archival system for athletic records. ?
Prior to his arrival at Ursuline, Alcox spent two years with the Akron Aeros as the Director of Public Relations and Media Relations where he managed all aspects of media relations, public affairs and community outreach for the Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians. He transformed the Aeros? website, developed new media guides and promotional materials and directed the Aeros? internship and scholarship programs.
He has also served as a Media Relations Assistant at the University of Akron where he served as the contact for baseball, volleyball and rifle and coordinated several national events, including the 2005 MAC Championship Football Game.? Additionally, he spent two years with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore as the Assistant Director of Media Relations and Marketing.
Alcox received a bachelor?s degree in both Sports Management and Electronic Media Sales and Management from Ashland University in 2001. He achieved a master?s of education degree in Business & Athletics from Frostburg State University in 2004.
